Suggest why it is important to make a distinction between developing the user requirements and developing system requirements in the requirements engineering process.

The Answer

It is important to make a distinction between developing the user requirements and system requirements to make the requirements clear and easy to understand to the readers. It helps in communicating information to the users about the system. User requirements specify the outline of the requirements and the system functions. Whereas the system requirements gives more detailed description of the system’s functions, services and constraints.

The distinction is required because different readers use them in different ways. The readers of the user requirements does not usually concerned with how the system will be implemented and may not be interested in the detailed facilities of the system. The readers of the system requirements need to know more about the system precisely, what it will do because they are involved in the system implementation.
